Ridge & dune soaring

Soaring trips: long, smooth airtime with a guide

Soaring trips are flying holidays built around steady ridge and dune lift — hours of relaxed flying over beaches, dunes and easy ridges in Spain, Morocco and Denmark, with a local guide who reads the wind and picks the right site every day. Always quoted on request.

Where we soar

Matalascañas, Spain

Atlantic dune soaring next to Doñana National Park. A smooth sea breeze, soft sand landings and hours of low-stress airtime — our home soaring spot and the best place to build confidence.

Løkken, Denmark

North Sea dune flying over wide beaches. Clean onshore wind, sociable soaring days and long evening sessions in summer light.

Mirleft, Morocco

Winter soaring over Atlantic cliffs. Consistent laminar coastal lift and warm flying while the Alps and northern sites are shut down.

Algodonales, Spain

Sierra de Líjar ridge soaring in Andalusia. A forgiving main ridge with easy top landings, ideal for pilots moving from dune soaring toward thermals.

What a soaring trip gives you

Steady, predictable lift

Ridge and dune lift is smooth and continuous, so flights are long and relaxed instead of short hops between thermals.

Daily site and wind calls

Your guide matches the forecast to the right dune or ridge line each day, and briefs the launch one-to-one.

Soft landing zones

Beaches and large grass fields, with radio guidance and debriefs after every flight to sharpen your ground handling and pitch control.

Soaring trips suit licensed pilots who want maximum airtime with minimum stress: returning pilots rebuilding currency, newer pilots consolidating launch and landing skills, and anyone who simply loves a long, smooth evening flight. Not licensed yet? Our one-to-one coaching days are the way in.

Soaring trips: frequently asked questions

What is a soaring trip?

A soaring trip is a guided flying holiday built around staying up on lift the terrain provides: ridge lift where wind is deflected up a slope or dune, and sea-breeze dynamics along the coast. Instead of chasing thermals inland, you fly long, smooth sessions close to the ridge — often well over an hour at a time.

How is soaring different from a thermal or cross-country trip?

Thermal and cross-country trips look for climbs over flat land and cover distance. Soaring trips stay with the ridge or dune line, where the lift is steady and predictable. That means simpler decisions, gentler conditions and far more airtime per flight — but you can step up to thermalling whenever you are ready.

Do I need experience to join a soaring trip?

Coastal dune soaring is the most accessible form of free flight for licensed pilots: if you can launch, fly and land your wing, you can usually join. Each listing states the minimum level, and first flights are briefed one-to-one with your guide. If you are not yet licensed, start with one-to-one coaching instead.

What equipment do I bring?

Your wing, harness with in-date reserve, helmet, boots, radio and variometer. For coastal soaring a speed-armour harness or thicker clothing is comfortable on the beach. Ask your organizer about rental if you are missing anything, or browse second-hand gear in our marketplace.

When is the best time for a soaring trip?

Coastal soaring works whenever the sea breeze is in: roughly spring to early autumn at Matalascañas and Løkken, and through the winter in Mirleft. Ridge soaring at Algodonales flies almost year-round. Because soaring sites depend on wind direction rather than thermals, your guide picks the day's spot from the forecast.

What does a soaring trip cost?

Soaring trips and coaching are quoted on request, because the price depends on dates, group size and what you need included — guiding, transport and briefings are detailed on each listing. Flights to the destination are not included.
